Tigers linked to signing of expected $200 million Blue Jays star to fix biggest issue
If the Detroit Tigers do one thing during the offseason, it has to be figuring out what they want to do long-term at shortstop.
Preferably, the Tigers will land a right-handed hitting shortstop, giving them an opportunity to start competing for the World Series at an even better level.Â
The Tigers have a few flaws on both sides of the baseball, but their inabilities at shortstop over the past few years have been clear.Â
Are the Tigers ready to make a splash? To fix that issue, Christopher Kline believes they’re one of the teams that could be in the mix for Toronto Blue Jays’ shortstop Bo Bichette. Bichette is on pace to lead the American League once again and hits for the third time in his career, and has truly swung the bat at a high level for much of it.Â
âThe Detroit Tigers are another small-market team in the thick of American League competition this season. AJ Hinch might be the best manager in baseball; there’s nobody better at maximizing matchups and making the most of disparate parts. But we know Detroit could use a bit more star power in the middle of the lineup…
âBichette’s swing should play well at Comerica, where home runs are hard to come by. His power numbers might stall, but Bichette can hammer the gaps in the outfield and rack up extra-base hits in front of cleanup bats like Kerry Carpenter, Riley Greene and Spencer Torkelson. Factor in solid defense with the potential to shift to third base, and Bichette gives Detroit that one extra everyday, four- or five-tool star it currently lacks,â he wrote.

The Blue Jays have played well recently, and many believe thereâs an opportunity for him to return to Toronto.
If the organization doesn’t want to keep Bichette around or he receives a better offer elsewhere, such as from the Tigers, it makes sense to give it a chance.
