Floyd Mayweather launched blistering attack on Canelo Alvarez and his $365 million deal… ‘Takes me 36 minutes’

Floyd Mayweather told Canelo Alvarez that his record-breaking 2018 contract was nothing special.

Years before entering his current lucrative contract with Turki Alalshikh’s Riyadh Season, Alvarez signed a historic deal with DAZN.

The Mexican star hit the headlines globally when he put pen to paper on an 11-fight agreement with DAZN worth $365 million. The monster contract not only went above and beyond anything seen in boxing, it was also the richest in sports history.

But amid a media frenzy surrounding the deal, which ultimately collapsed a couple of years later when Alvarez severed ties with Golden Boy Promotions, one big name was unimpressed.

Years on from their showdown, the animosity was clearly still there, as evidenced by how ‘Money’ reacted to his ex-rival’s history-making contract.

In a now-deleted post on Instagram, Mayweather took aim at Alvarez following news of the deal. The now-retired fighter scoffed at the record $365 million figure, claiming he could match that 11-fight total in just minutes.

He also referenced Alvarez’s suspension for failing a drugs test, which delayed the Mexican’s rematch against Gennady Golovkin, and branded Conor McGregor a tougher opponent for him than Alvarez was.

“It didn’t matter if Canelo ate his PED (Performance-Enhancing Drug) steak or not this night, this was by far the easiest fight of my career!” Mayweather wrote. (h/t Business Insider).

“Conor McQuitter was a way better fighter than Canelo’s cheating a— and I beat the breaks off him too!

“It takes me 36 minutes or less to make $300 million plus,” Mayweather continued. “It literally takes me one night and one fight to make what you might make in five years and 11 fights.

“So really, who’s still winning? You do the math!”

THROWBACK: Canelo Alvarez’s surprising answer for what job he’d have if he was not a boxing star with $620 million earningsCanelo Alvarez’s latest lucrative deal set the stage for Terence Crawford super fightAlthough the deal that made him sport’s richest athlete soon fell apart and was followed by a legal dispute, Alvarez has certainly not done badly for himself financially in the years since.

Alvarez signed a four-fight deal with Turki Alalshikh, the head of Riyadh Season and chairman of Saudi Arabia’s General Entertainment Authority, worth a reported $400 million this past February.

After the deal kicked off with the Mexican’s victory over William Scull this past May, a highly anticipated super fight with Terence Crawford will take place this Saturday at Allegiant Stadium.

‘Bud’ is moving up two weight classes to challenge Alvarez’s undisputed super middleweight champ status in a fight promoted by UFC CEO Dana White.
