Memorable PS3 Rhythm Shooter Beat Hazard Returns to PS5, PS4 Later This Month
Shoot to your songs
Do you remember those early days of the PS Store? There wasnât as much software back then, so every new release felt meaningful.
Beat Hazard Ultra is one game we recall fondly. It used all of the PS3âs fancy multimedia features to allow you to pull in your playlists, and it generated twin-stick shooter stages based on a soundtrack of your choosing.
Well, developer Cold Beam Games is bringing the franchise back to PlayStation after 12 long years, with Beat Hazard Arcade for PS5 and PS4.
Itâll launch on 24th September, amid a release schedule thatâs admittedly beginning to look beyond chaotic.
As with the previous versions, youâll be able to stream your own soundtrack using MP3s on a USB stick, but the title will also feature 4.5 hours of included music if you donât want to bother curating your own audio.
One neat trick is that bosses and player ships will be generated based on the songs you choose, so thereâs more going on here than the game pulsating to the soundtrack. Thereâll also be four-player local co-op.
We asked the dev if itâll also work with apps like Spotify, but unfortunately thatâs apparently not possible on PlayStation.
In the meantime, check out the trailer above for a blast from the past, and let us know if youâre planning to revisit this release when it returns to the PS Store.
