NFL makes $57,222 decision on Eagles’ Jalen Carter for spitting on Dak Prescott
The NFL has handed down its punishment for Philadelphia Eagles defensive lineman Jalen Carter after he spit on Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott in Week 1.
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the league is fining Carter a whopping $57,222 for his disgusting act.
However, Carter will avoid a suspension for Week 2, with Schefter noting the NFL believes his ejection before the first offensive snap of the game serves as his ban. Carter will not appeal the ruling.
“NFL is fining Eagles DT Jalen Carter $57,222 for spitting on Dak Prescott,” he reported. “The league also says the game he was ejected for will serve as a one-game suspension.”
“After talking to the Eagles, the NFL and the NFLPA, Jalen has decided not to appeal and focus on the Chiefs game,” Carter’s agent, Drew Rosenhaus, said.
Carter got himself ejected before the very first offensive play of the Thursday night game versus the Cowboys.
Carter believed Prescott was showing hostility by spitting at him and the Eagles’ huddle, but the Cowboys quarterback has denied that.
“I actually said words like, ‘Why the hell would I’ — excuse me, but probably even more colorful — ‘What would I need to spit on you for?’ He just spit on me in that moment, it was more of a surprise than anything,” Prescott said, according to Pro Football Talk.
Carter was remorseful for his actions after the game, saying his inexcusable act was “a mistake.”
“It was a mistake that happened on my side, and it just won’t happen again,” Carter said. “I feel bad for my teammates and the fans out there. I’m doing it for them. … Not being able to start the game even, finish the game, it f—– me up, but we’re going to get it better. It won’t happen again. I can make that promise.”
The Eagles can now breathe a huge sigh of relief that they’ll have one of their best players on the field for a Week 2 Super Bowl rematch against the Kansas City Chiefs.
