Barbra Streisand Details Last Meeting With Robert Redford Before Death
Barbra Streisand will always remember Robert Redford as the way he was.
In the wake of her The Way We Were costar’s death at age 89, the two-time Oscar winner reflected on the final time they crossed paths.
“The last time I saw him, when he came to lunch,” Streisand shared on Instagram Sept. 16, “we discussed art and decided to send each other our first drawings.”
And even though she considered herself and the actor to be “such opposites,” their deep friendship endured over the years since costarring as lovers in the 1978 film.
“Every day on the set of The Way We Were was exciting, intense and pure joy,” Streisand, 83, recalled. “He was from the world of horses; I was allergic to them! Yet, we kept trying to find out more about each other, just like the characters in the movie.”
Calling Redford “charismatic, intelligent, intense, always interestingâand one of the finest actors ever,” the Yentl star added, “He was one of a kind and Iâm so grateful to have had the opportunity to work with him.”
Redford passed away on the morning of Sept. 16 at his home in Sundance, Utah, his publicist confirmed to E! News.Â
“The place he loved, surrounded by those he loved,” Redford’s rep added in a statement. “He will be missed greatly.”
Indeed, the Sundance Film Festival founder was beloved by many in Hollywood, with his several of his castmates share their condolences amid learning about his passing.

“One of the lions has passed,” Meryl Streep, who starred opposite of Redford in 1985’s Out of Africa, told Deadline in a statement. “Rest in peace my lovely friend.â
Meanwhile, Redford’s frequent collaborator Jane Fonda said the loss has hit her “hard.”
âI canât stop crying,” the Barefoot in the Park actress shared with E! News in a statement. “He meant a lot to me and was a beautiful person in every way.”
