Xbox Series S Handles Dying Light: The Beast’s Open World Well, Despite Lack Of 60FPS
It performs solidly, shows Digital Foundry

Digital Foundry has just dropped its tech review for new open-world zombie adventure Dying Light: The Beast, and the results are welcome ones for console players – despite them being fairly predictable.
The upshot of it is that this new Dying Light spin-off has solid performance across pretty much every console mode, with Xbox Series X and PS5 turning in similar results across their 30FPS and 60FPS modes. The Beast is the latest game on Xbox Series S to feature just one 30FPS mode – but it performs very well throughout the open world in DF’s testing.
Series X and PS5 users get a nice bonus as well; Dying Light: The Beast contains an unlocked frame rate mode on all consoles apart from Series S – meaning if you have a 120Hz VRR-enabled display, you can push the game beyond 60FPS. It doesn’t get close to 120FPS by any means, but it does rise above 60 and with VRR should be a fairly smooth experience overall.
In general, then, the outlet seems impressed enough by Dying Light: The Beast’s console performance. However, the review closes out by mentioning that Dying Light 2 had a wider range of options on console (including a patched-in 60FPS mode on Series S), and it’s hoping to see developer Techland improve this new entry somewhere down the line. We too hope to see more options at some point – and in the meantime, you can check out the full video review up above to hear about how the game is performing on Xbox right now.
