Nicole Kidman Files for Divorce From Keith Urban Amid Separation
Nicole Kidman and Keith Urbanâs wild hearts are no longer beating together.
Though The Perfect Couple star filed for divorce in September after 19 years of marriage, E! News learned they had separated over the summer. And amid news of their breakup, their social media activity is being seen in a new lightâincluding how the country singer may have hinted he and Nicole were headed towards a breakup.Â
Indeed, though the Oscar winner posted a photo of her and Keith cuddled up for their 19th wedding anniversary in June, the âWild Heartsâ singer opted to not share a celebratory post of his own. Instead, he commented a simple heart emoji on Nicoleâs post.
However, one month prior, Keith, 57, and Nicole, 58 had turned the Academy of Country Music Awards into a date night, with the Big Little Lies star cheering him on as he took home the Triple Crown award.
Alongside a video celebrating with Nicole in the limo and a photo of the two of them in the audience, he wrote, “I LOVED every second of it !!!”
Just two months before Nicole and Keithâs breakup was confirmed, the duo had raised eyebrows when he was absent from her application to become a resident of Portugal. Though at the time, a source had told E! it was simply due to scheduling conflicts.Â
âKeith was unable to be in Portugal for this appointment as he is currently on tour in the U.S.,” the source explained, “and it is mandatory for applicants to be physically present in order to apply for the visa. He is scheduled to submit his application at a later date that works with his tour schedule.”Â

Though E! also learned that Nicole had been trying to save their marriage since their separation, it wasn’t the first time she had to fight for their relationship.
âWe got married in June 2006,â Keith said in a speech honoring Nicole at the 49th AFI Life Achievement Award Gala in April 2024, according to People, âand barely four months into our marriage, my addictions⊠that Iâd done really nothing about, blew our marriage to smithereens.â
He continued, âI had no idea what was going to happen to us⊠and if you want to see what love in action really looks like, give that a whirl. Nic pushed through every negative voice, I’m sure even some of her own and she chose love. And here we are tonight, 18 years later.â

The country singer raised eyebrows when he abruptly ended an interview after being asked about Kidman’s onscreen chemistry with costar Zac Efron in A Family Affair.
âThe first thing I thought of with your beautiful wife, Nicole Kidman, being on so many great movies, TV shows all the time,â a radio host said on Australiaâs Mix 102.3âs Hayley & Max in the Morning. âWhat does Keith Urban think when he sees his beautiful wife with beautiful younger men like Zac Efron having these beautiful love scenes on TV and radio?â
Suddenly, Urban disappeared from the call.
âHe’s disconnected from Zoom,â a radio staffer said. âI think his team hung up on us because they didn’t want us to ask that question.â
His rep didn’t respond to E!’s request for comment at the time.Â

July 24, 2025: It’s Revealed That Nicole Kidman Applied for Residency in Portugal
E! News learned that the Practical Magic star had submitted application to become a resident of Portugal, with Urban preparing to do the same himself.Â
âKeith was unable to be in Portugal for this appointment as he is currently on tour in the U.S.,” a source with knowledge of the situation told E!, “and it is mandatory for applicants to be physically present in order to apply for the visa. He is scheduled to submit his application at a later date that works with his tour schedule.”
At the time, the source said both planned to maintain a permanent residence in Nashville as well.

In August, her lawyer prepared a Child Support Worksheet included in a Parenting Plan stating that Kidman and Urban would be “joint custodians” of their teen daughters Sunday Rose and Faith Margaret.
However, the Oscar winner was listed as the “primary residential parent,” with the girls spending 306 days a year with their mother and 59 days with their father (Urban will have the children every other weekend.).Â
Neither will pay child support, according to the doc obtained by E! News.
âThe mother and father will behave with each other and each child so as to provide a loving, stable, consistent and nurturing relationship with the child even though they are divorced,â it stated. âThey will not speak badly of each other or the members of the family of the other parent. They will encourage each child to continue to love the other parent and be comfortable in both families.â

Aug. 29, 2025: Keith Urban Signs Paperwork
Urban moved forward with their Marital Dissolution Agreement, getting it notorized in August, per the doc obtained by E! News.
The document said that Kidman would “institute divorce proceedings against” him due to irreconcilable differences. It also stated that neither party would be getting alimony or spousal support in their split.
The same date, he also signed off on the Parenting Plan.

Sept. 6, 2025: Nicole Kidman Signs Paperwork
A week after Urban, the actress had the Marital Dissolution Agreement notorized as well and signed the Parenting Plan.
The same day, a judge signed off on an order that both stars would complete a manditory parenting seminar unless they file for an exemption, per the doc obtained by E! News.
