The New York Yankees’ dreams of winning their first World Series since 2009 will be delayed another year. 

Toronto found success in the series because it was able to get ahead of New York early and often, and that continued in Game 4. Vladimir Guerrero Jr. singled in a run in the top of the first. New York responded with a solo home run in the top of the third. Toronto took the lead back in the top of the fifth with a sac fly. After that, the Blue Jays added three insurance runs through the eighth inning. New York tried to spark a late rally with an Aaron Judge RBI in the bottom of the ninth, but that’s where it ended. 

Toronto had a bullpen day in Game 4. The Blue Jays used eight different pitchers in order to earn their starting pitchers extra rest. Toronto’s Seranthony Dominguez was credited with the win as Jeff Hoffman earned the save. Eric Lauer, Yariel Rodriguez and Brendon Little all earned holds. New York’s Cam Schlittler was impressive, allowing just two earned runs over 6.1 innings.

Bottom on the Ninth Inning — Blue Jays 5, Yankees 2

10:32 p.m. — Hoffman stays on to finish the game for the Blue Jays. Jasson Dominguez leads off the inning, pinch-hitting for Volpe. He opens the ninth with a leadoff double. Rosario flew out to left field. Grisham grounded out to third for the second inning. 

It feels fitting that with the final out looming, Judge comes to the plate. He swings through the first two pitches of the at-bat, both sliders. He hits a line drive off the outfield wall, scoring Dominguez. The Blue Jays kept him to a single. 

Bellinger struck out to end the game. 

Top of the Ninth Inning — Blue Jays 5, Yankees 1

10:20 p.m. — Lukes starts the inning with a leadoff double, and the Blue Jays have 12 hits. Guerrero grounded out to third. Barger struck out for the second out of the inning. Kirk also strikes out, and the Yankees have to score at least four in the bottom of the ninth to keep this one going. 

Bottom of the Eighth Inning — Blue Jays 5, Yankees 1

10:12 p.m. — The Blue Jays continue the bullpen day, bringing Brayden Fisher on in relief. He gets Judge to strike out to start the inning. Bellinger then pops out to second base on the infield. Stanton rips a single up the middle. Chisholm then worked an eight-pitch walk. Ben Rice pinch hit for Paul Goldschmidt, and the Blue Jays go to their closer Jeff Hoffman.

 Rice works a seven-pitch at-bat that ends with a walk. Wells saw only one pitch with the bases loaded and flew out to left field to end the inning. 

Top of the Eighth Inning — Blue Jays 5, Yankees 1

9:55 p.m. — Camilo Doval comes into the game for New York. Kirk smokes a hard ground ball down the third base line for a leadoff double. Varsho flies out to deep right, and Kirk moves up to third. Myles Straw, who was substituted into the Blue Jays’ defense, loops a ball into right field for another insurance run.

— MLB (@MLB) October 9, 2025Doval then hit Clement with a 96 mph ball in the shoulder. Manager Aaron Boone then turned to closer David Bednar with one out and runners on first and second. Gimenez grounds out to shortstop, but the Yankees’ defense can only get one out. Bednar gets Springer to strike out to end the inning. 

Bottom of the Seventh Inning — Blue Jays 4, Yankees 1

9:42 p.m. — Brendon Little comes out of the pen for Toronto. He begins his outing by walking Goldschmidt. Wells launches a ball to deep center, and the crowd erupts. The ball dies at the warning track, and Goldschmidt has to trot back to first. Volpe’s woes at the plate continue, and he struck out for the third time in the game. 

Amed Rosario pinch hit for McMahon and lined a ball into center. Grisham couldn’t capitalize and fouled out to the shortstop.

9:25 p.m. — Schlittler remains on the mound for the Yankees. Ryan McMahon made an impressive sliding catch of his own to retire Santander to begin the inning.

— MLB (@MLB) October 9, 2025Clement then lines one to right field for a single. Giminez hit a rocket up the middle, and Chisholm wasn’t able to field it. Instead of a possible inning-ending double play, it turns into first and third with one out, and Schlittler’s night is done.

He gets Springer to strike out, but Gimenez steals second on the final pitch of the at-bat. Lukes comes up with runners on second and third, with two outs. Luke’s rips a single to center, and it plates both runners.

Bottom of the Sixth Inning — Blue Jays 2, Yankees 1

9:03 p.m. — Lauer stayed in the game for Toronto to face the lefty Grisham. He got him to strike out looking. Toronto then chose to intentionally walk Judge with one away. Bellinger had a loud lineout to left field for the second out. 

Toronto then replaced Lauer with Yariel Rodriguez to face Stanton. Rodriguez starts the at-bat with three straight balls, and then walks Stanton on the fifth pitch. This brought up Chisholm, who entered 0-7 against Rodriguez in his career. He moves to 0-8 with a groundout to second base. 

Top of the Sixth Inning — Blue Jays 2, Yankees 1

8:50 p.m. — New York got the bullpen active in the fifth inning, but Schlittler is still on the mound to start the sixth. Barger hits a ball against the shift on the ground for a single. Kirk hits a flyball to right field for the first out of the inning. Varsho scorched one to first, but Goldschmidt caught it, and after a quick game of pickle, Barger was tagged out to end the inning. 

Bottom of the Fifth Inning — Blue Jays 2, Yankees 1

8:43 p.m. — Dominguez’s day is done, and Eric Lauer comes out of the pen for Toronto. He gets Wells to pop out to shortstop. Volpe goes down swinging on three pitches. McMahon grounded out to second, and Lauer only needed nine pitches to get three outs in the fifth. 

Top of the Fifth Inning — Blue Jays 2, Yankees 1

8:36 p.m. — Ernie Clement singled to left to start the frame. Gimenez grounds a ball up the middle, just out of reach of Chisholm, and Clement advanced to third. The Toronto lineup turns over, and Springer comes to the plate with two on and no outs. Springer lines out to center, but it allows Clement to score on the sacrifice fly.

— MLB (@MLB) October 9, 2025Lukes sounded like he broke his bat, and it resulted in a weak hit. Goldschmidt fielded it and slipped, but was still able to get the lead runner at second. Guerrero came up with two outs and worked a full count. The star took the third strike on the low, outside corner for the final out of the inning.

8:24 p.m. — Giancarlo Stanton opened the inning with a walk, but Jazz Chisholm quickly grounded into a double play. Goldschmidt ended the inning with a quick three-pitch strikeout. 

Top of the Fourth Inning — Blue Jays 1, Yankees 1

8:16 p.m. — Barger begins the inning, driving a ball into the left center gap for a double. Kirk lines one to Aaron Judge in right, but Barger is unable to advance. Varsho lined the next pitch to left for a flyout, and Barger again remains at second. With Anthony Santander at the plate, Barger finally advances to third, but it is from a wild pitch. Santander tipped the sixth pitch of the at-bat, but Wells hung onto it for an inning-ending strikeout. 

Bottom of the Third Inning — Blue Jays 1, Yankees 1

8:06 p.m. — Ryan McMahon battled to open the inning, reaching a 3-2 count. Then, the nine-hole hitter launched a lefty-lefty line drive home run to right field to tie the game.

— New York Yankees (@Yankees) October 8, 2025Grisham then saw eight pitches before getting rung up on a pitch up and in for the strikeout. With Judge coming to the plate, Fluharty got pulled in favor of Seranthony Dominguez. 

Judge hit a 112 mph liner up the middle, but right at Ernie Clement who was shifted over for the second out of the inning. Cody Bellinger drove one to deep center, but it died before getting to the warning track to end the inning. 

Top of the Third Inning — Blue Jays 1, Yankees 0

7:51 p.m. — Toronto’s lineup turns over. Springer grounds out to third, and Nathan Lukes grounded out to shortstop. Vladimir Guerrero Jr. saw four pitches and grounded out to third for a one-two-three inning for Schlittler. 

Bottom of the Second Inning — Blue Jays 1, Yankees 0

7:45 p.m. — Jazz Chisholm struck out on six pitches to open the frame. Goldschmidt had a 2-2 count, but Varland tried to go inside with a sinker, and he hit the Yankees’ first baseman in the elbow. 

It was expected to be a bullpen day for Toronto, and Varland’s day is done. The Blue Jays brought in lefty Mason Fluharty out of the pen, and he struck out Austin Wells for the second out of the inning. Volpe, battled to a 2-2 count, but struck out looking on a pitch up and away to end the second. 

Top of the Second Inning — Blue Jays 1, Yankees 0

7:32 p.m. — Anthony Santander saw 11 pitches to drive up Cam Schlittler’s pitch count, but the at-bat ended in a lineout. Ernie Clement flied out to shortstop as Anthony Volpe made an impressive over-the-shoulder grab.

Bottom of the First Inning — Blue Jays 1, Yankees 0

7:25 p.m. — New York wasn’t able to muster much its first time to the plate. Trent Grisham fouled out to third, and Aaron Judge ripped a single to left. Louie Varland then got Cody Bellinger to strike out and Giancarlo Stanton to fly out to end the inning.

7:22 p.m. — Cam Schlittler is starting for the Yankees after an incredible postseason debut against the Boston Red Sox. George Springer opened the game with a double. Two batters later, Vladimir Guerrero Jr. singled to right, bringing Springer in for an early lead.
