PS5 Puzzler Lumines Arise Is Looking Incredible in New Overview Video

It’s no secret that we’re big fans of Lumines here at Push Square Towers, and the upcoming new entry, Lumines Arise, looks better and better each time we see it.

A new video gives us our broadest look at the puzzle game yet, delving into the various modes and features it has to offer. It also reveals several new levels/skins, but if you don’t mind seeing those ahead of launch, this is well worth watching:

The game’s main mode is Journey, essentially the same single player experience as seen in Tetris Effect. You play through over 35 stages, each with unique music and gorgeous visuals that weave an abstract story of sorts.

Outside of that, there’s the more traditional Survival, in which you play through every stage in a row with no breaks, and see how long you can last.

Missions mode also returns, and it offers dozens of training missions as well as unique challenges to help you hone your Lumines skills. Some of these remind us of the fun alternate modes found in Tetris Effect, so we’re really glad to see them.

Playlists is where you can pick and choose which stages to play and in what order. It looks like you’ll be able to create lots of custom playlists for specific moods or just going through your favourites.

Loomiis are an evolution of the avatars found in past Lumines games. These are much more customisable, allowing you to represent yourself in the game and its multiplayer hub with a range of cosmetics, as well as banners, titles, and so on.

The multiplayer hub is where you’ll find Burst Battle, a head-to-head mode available to sample in the demo. There’s also Quick Burst, in which you attempt to make as large a Burst as possible.

In Leaderboard League, you’ll find Time Attack modes that Lumines fans will be familiar with, tasking you with clearing as many squares as you can within set time limits.

On top of that is a mode named Dig Down; your objective is to clear the playfield downward as more blocks populate the grid from the bottom. It’s an interesting survival/endurance mode that looks like a real test of skill.

Lastly, Loomii Live events will occur in the multiplayer area each weekend, much like Tetris Effect’s weekend rituals. Players all work together to earn points, unlocking rewards when they reach the target.

There’s a touch more detail on all of this information over on the PS Blog as well.

With all these modes, challenges, and features, Lumines Arise is looking like the most comprehensive game in the series so far.
