The 3-headed reason the Orlando Magic can shock the NBA and win a championship
The NBA has gone a little bit away from its “Big Three” era.
But it still helps to have three of the best players on the court at all times. That’s how the Orlando Magic will find themselves this season.
They’ve got Paolo Banchero, the dominant and forceful scorer.
They’ve got Franz Wagner, the shifty playmaker and shot maker.
And now they’ve got Desmond Bane, acquired in a trade from the Memphis Grizzlies, the best floor spacer on the roster who can also fill it up.

No one is saying the Magic will win the NBA title.
But for the first time more than a decade, Orlando has a roster capable of truly contending with the best teams in the league.
“Orlando hasn’t been past the first round since 2010,” ESPN’s Ohm Youngmisuk writes. “But the Magic shook things up when they traded four unprotected first-round picks and a first-round pick swap for Desmond Bane, giving Banchero and Wagner a legitimate shooter to ease the offensive burden and free up space. The Magic will have to wait for Jalen Suggs to return from knee surgery, but Orlando should be in the mix for a top-three seed in the East behind the Cavs and Knicks.”

The Eastern Conference is weakened this season by injuries, so this is a perfect year for a surprise team like the Magic to seize an opening.
They’ll have to stay healthy. Last year, both Banchero and Wagner missed ample time, ironically both because of oblique injuries.
If they’re on the floor, though, they’re tough to stop, and they’ll be even tougher considering they’ve got Bane on their side now, too.
It’s certainly an exciting season to look forward to for fans of the Magic.
