Waldorf Astoria Shanghai Qiantan Opens on the Huangpu

Hilton Group (NYSE: HLT) announced the opening of Waldorf Astoria Shanghai Qiantan on October 20, 2025, marking a new milestone for the iconic luxury brand.

Following Doha and Dubai, Shanghai now joins the elite list of cities with two Waldorf Astoria hotels—Qiantan and the Bund—glistening on opposite banks of the Huangpu River.

A Riverside Landmark of Modern GraceSituated in the heart of Qiantan International Business District, the new Waldorf Astoria commands a prime waterfront location where tranquil greenery meets metropolitan vitality.

Developed by Lujiazui Group and managed by Hilton, the architecture evokes the silhouette of a cruise ship sailing through the Huangpu, an emblem of motion, lightness, and refinement.

“Shanghai remains one of Asia’s most dynamic cities,” said Alan Watts, President, Hilton Asia Pacific. “The debut of Waldorf Astoria Shanghai Qiantan not only elevates the city’s luxury landscape but also reaffirms Hilton’s long-term confidence in China’s high-end travel market.”

Legacy and Vision

The year 2025 carries symbolic weight for the brand.

As the Waldorf Astoria New York—hailed by founder Conrad Hilton as ‘The Greatest of Them All’—reopens, Shanghai’s Qiantan property sets sail simultaneously, underscoring a shared legacy of excellence.

Since the debut of Waldorf Astoria Shanghai on the Bund in 2010, the brand has expanded across China with properties in Beijing, Chengdu, Xiamen, and now Qiantan—each blending classic poise with modern sensibility.

“This opening represents another pivotal chapter in our luxury portfolio,” added Candice D’Cruz, Vice President, Luxury Brands, Hilton Asia Pacific. “Qiantan exemplifies how Waldorf Astoria continues to merge timeless elegance with innovative, personalized experiences.”

Designing a Dialogue Between East and WestDesigned by KPF with interiors by CCD, the hotel reinterprets Waldorf Astoria’s heritage through an Art Deco perspective of Shanghai.

Signature peacock motifs and sail-inspired forms evoke the city’s maritime legacy while celebrating fine craftsmanship.

The property features 204 spacious guestrooms and suites, starting at 52 square meters, with more than 90% offering private balconies overlooking the Huangpu.

Select suites include outdoor whirlpools—serene havens for reflection framed by the city skyline.

A Feast of CreativityTrue to Waldorf Astoria’s culinary legacy, the hotel presents inspired dining that bridges continents and cultures.

ARAME, on the first floor, highlights contemporary European seafood and extended brunch hours for a relaxed dining rhythm.

Atop the hotel, Fucheng Chinese Restaurant, helmed by Michelin-starred chef Yang Yanbin, reimagines Fujian cuisine with refined artistry and bespoke tea pairings curated by expert tea sommeliers.

For a bespoke gourmet encounter, Starlight Room chef-table-style offers a reservation-only experience featuring an open kitchen and private river-view terrace.

Meanwhile, Peacock Alley, a Waldorf hallmark, offers an interactive lounge with signature coffees, handcrafted desserts, and sweeping views of the river, uniting Shanghai’s cosmopolitan pulse with Waldorf serenity.

Wellness by the WaterA 25-meter indoor heated pool with marble accents and skylit views anchors the wellness floor, complemented by a 24-hour fitness center and four private spa suites.

Guests can also explore Qiantan’s riverside trails, cycling routes, and yoga lawns, connecting with nearby cultural landmarks such as West Bund Museum, Tank Shanghai, and Long Museum.

More than a destination, Waldorf Astoria Shanghai Qiantan is a sanctuary where art, design, and hospitality converge—a serene haven for those who seek beauty in balance.
