Anne Hathaway’s Fall Outfit Formula Is So Easy—and Cheap—to Replicate

Anne Hathaway is taking her style cues from the outline of the woman figure on bathroom doors, but in a fashion way. We don’t mean that as a diss, honest.

For the past month, her preferred silhouette has been a clean T-shirt shape and a long train that’s either attached to or indistinguishable from her top, and we’re starting to see the vision. It’s giving cape. On October 4 the Oscar winner attended the Balenciaga spring-summer 2026 show at Paris Fashion Week, wearing dramatic opera gloves and a graphic T-shirt that, when she stood up, was sort of a mullet; short in the front, long in the back, reaching the floor and trailing dramatically behind her. Thus the T-shirt train was born.

Add to this the fact that she was spotted in a boxier white version of a similar garment while on set for a certain sequel over the summer and you’ve got yourself a trend in the making…

Then, on October 20, Hathaway attended the 19th annual Golden Heart Awards benefitting God’s Love We Deliver in New York City wearing a Michael Kors ensemble that, while not technically a T-shirt train, could have fooled us. In head-to-toe black, she rocked a T-shirt and pants, plus a gauzy wraparound skirt that certainly had a train-like appearance as it billowed out behind her when she walked.

Hathaway accessorized with a black belt, black heels, a black clutch purse, and gold jewelry, keeping her makeup rosy and bright and letting her hair stay long and loose. She was accompanied by her husband, Adam Schulman, in a dark suit and boots.

Luckily for us, the big T-shirt, long train formula is easy to replicate, with similar boxy tees starting at just $8. You can either layer a skirt over a pair of trousers to achieve a similar silhouette (or buy a skirt-pant hybrid) or French-tuck a long T-shirt dress.

We’re not sure what’s behind Hathaway’s sudden penchant for T-shirts with skirts and trains. Maybe she’s just keeping her pants clean on the subway? Not the worst idea.
