Joe Cole delivering some interesting Newcastle United predictions
Joe Cole has been talking about Newcastle United.
The former Liverpool and England winger discussing Sunday afternoon’s match.
Joe Cole on the chances of Eddie Howe’s side winning, as they take on Brentford.
The Newcastle United boss set to face the Bees at the GTech Community Stadium with a 2pm kick-off.
Both teams wanting to head into this latest international break on a high.
Joe Cole talking ahead of Newcastle United facing Brentford in the Premier League:
“Newcastle have saved their best performances for the Champions League and Eddie Howe knows that.
“He was talking about it after the game in midweek.
“If you’re struggling a bit and you’ve got to go away, Brentford is one of the games you really don’t want.
“I can see this being an exciting 2-2 draw.
“Expect plenty of set pieces but, for Brentford, I’ll have Igor Thiago to score. He’s one of my favourite centre forwards, he’s a throw back, a proper forward.”
My thoughts
Joe Cole fancies there to be four goals in this match and on the last two visits for Newcastle to the GTech Community Stadium, there have been six goals each time.
The final game of the 2023/24 season saw Newcastle win 4-2, whilst it was Brentford with a 4-2 victory here last season.
Under Eddie Howe, Newcastle United have actually won three of their four games away at Brentford, whilst home and away, the last eight games between the two sides in all competitions have seen seven United wins.
Igor Thiago signed for Brentford in a reported £30m deal but ended up missing almost the entire 2024/25 season, only one Premier League start after picking up a bad Meniscus injury.
Making up for lost time though, the Brazilian striker has six goals in ten Premier League starts this season and is clearly a big threat. Thiago scoring in each of the last three Premier League wins for Brentford, four goals in total in this last trio of PL victories.
Newcastle have nine clean sheets in 16 matches (all competitions so far), including five in the last eight games. if managing to bank another clean sheet today, stopping Thiago and friends from scoring, that would go a long way to bringing United a first PL away win of the season.
