Alan Shearer is backing Newcastle United to end this run of over seven months

Alan Shearer has been looking ahead to Newcastle United facing Brentford.

A 2pm kick-off on Sunday, a win for Eddie Howe’s side would be huge.

Newcastle United have won seven of their last eight games against Brentford, home and away.

Whilst United have also won six of their most recent eight matches this season, in all competitions.

One of the major negatives this season has of course been the away form in the Premier League, with no wins from five PL games on the road.

Whilst at home it has been seven wins (in all competitions) in ten games, the only exceptions having been narrow single goal losing margins to Liverpool, Barcelona and Arsenal.

Alan Shearer is backing United to make it seven wins from their last nine matches today, also picking up their first Premier League away victory of the season. Here’s hoping he is calling this right today.

Alan Shearer speaking to Betfair about Newcastle United ahead of this Brentford match – 8 November 2025:

“Newcastle let us down last weekend.

“They were slightly better against Bilbao, had to win that game.

“Anthony Gordon went off injured but I guess he may have been left out anyway [against Brentford].

“I will go for an away win and put my faith in Newcastle United again.

“They will have to defend well from set-pieces because that’s a great strength of Brentford’s.

“I’ll go for an away win because Newcastle have to improve their away form.

“If you look at the bigger picture, Newcastle are flying in the Champions League with three wins, they’re in the quarter-finals of the Carabao Cup. so there’s plenty to work on and look forward to, but they have to improve away from home.

“Last week [against West Ham] was unacceptable, you can maybe accept one of those a season, but you can’t have any more than that.

“With the money spent and ability in that team, Newcastle shouldn’t be lingering in the bottom five or bottom four.”

My thoughts

Including the end of last season, it is over seven months and eight Premier League away matches have gone by, since a 3-0 stroll away at Leicester on 7 April 2025.

However, I am backing Alan Shearer, who is backing Newcastle United to end this Premier League run without a win on NUFC’s travels.
