Update [Thu 13th Nov 2025, 7:15pm]: Rockstar Games has now confirmed the original Red Dead Redemption is indeed coming to PS5, and it’s out on 2nd December 2025. Anyone who owns the PS4 version will receive a free upgrade.
The YouTube description mentions you’ll also be able to carry your progress over from the PS4 version, and there’ll be “a number of [other] enhancements”.
Original Story: All the rumours and speculation over the past 12 months have pointed towards Red Dead Redemption 2 finally getting a native PS5 upgrade, but what if it’s actually the first game receiving the treatment?
A new age rating from the ESRB board suggests so.
Red Dead Redemption, the first game, has received an ESRB age rating for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch 2.
Age ratings are usually only issued when a game is actually real and nearing the end of development, meaning that this could be a real thing Rockstar has in the works right now. The description also alludes to shooting zombies, suggesting the Undead Nightmare expansion would be included in the release.
First released for PS3 in 2010, the original Red Dead Redemption made its way to PS4 just over two years ago as a very basic port with only a few technical improvements. It was actually later updated to run at 60 frames-per-second on PS5.
Rockstar will presumably see this release mainly as a way of getting Red Dead Redemption up and running on Switch 2, but if any further visual and technical enhancements are attached to the PS5 version, we’re not going to say no. Taking the rumours into account, there’s also potential the developer is planning for a Red Dead Redemption double pack, with both open worlders available on PS5.

Liam grew up with a PlayStation controller in his hands and a love for Metal Gear Solid. Nowadays, he’s found playing the latest and greatest PS5 games as well as supporting Derby County. That last detail is his downfall.
