A new name emerges in the latest update on the Saints head coaching search

After the New Orleans Saints fired Dennis Allen, the rumors of potential future head coaches and different candidates swirled. Now that their 2024 regular season is almost complete, the team can start the head coach process and find the right coach to lead this roster. There have been several popular names attached to the Saints job, such as Mike Vrabel and Aaron Glenn, but a new candidate could be in the mix.

Per Dianna Russini, the New Orleans Saints are expected to have interest in former Bears head coach Matt Nagy.

Currently, Matt Nagy is on the Kansas City Chiefs coaching staff as the offensive coordinator, but just three years ago, he was the head coach of the Chicago Bears. While being a head coach, his record was 34-31, and went to the playoffs twice, but lost both of those times. His first year in Chicago resulted in a 12-4 record. After that, a mix of bad coaching and locker room issues was why Nagy was fired in Chicago. Now, after a year in Kansas City, the hope is that Matt Nagy learned and developed under Andy Reid to get back to that 12-4 head coach.

Another name that Dianna Russini mentioned was Mike Vrabel. The former Tennessee Titans head coach is set to meet with the Saints this week, per reports. Vrabel is one of the top candidates available in this coaching cycle, and it makes sense that the Saints are interested. The fact that this meeting will be taking place this week is significant. It shows that New Orleans is starting the head coach search early while also showing that there is mutual interest between Vrabel and the Saints.
