More than the ACC Championship is on the line for UNC today. A win could potentially earn the Tar Heels the final No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament.

UNC earned their bid to the conference title game with a 72-65 win on Friday night win over No. 4 Pitt.

ACC Player of the Year RJ Davis led the Tar Heels with 25 points in a tense victory that came down to the final minutes.

The Panthers led at halftime, and UNC and Pitt were tied with less than five minutes remaining on the clock until Davis sank a pair of clutch threes to give the Tar Heels to late lead.

This marks UNC’s first trip to the ACC title game since 2018, and the team’s 36th overall. Carolina has now surpassed Duke (35) for the most championship berths in tournament history, per CBS Sports.

Connecticut, Purdue and Houston are settled as No. 1 seeds this Selection Sunday, but the final spot is still up for grabs.

After Tennessee was held to just 56 points in a blowout upset by Mississippi State in the SEC quarterfinals Friday, UNC could secure the final spot with a win over Virginia.

UNC has won six NCAA Tournament titles, and five came when the Tar Heels were a No. 1 seed.

Expect Carolina to turn to Davis and fifth-year senior Armando Bacot, who recorded 19 points during Friday night’s win, down the stretch. The two combined for UNC’s final 16 points in the victory, per Adam Lucas of UNC Media.

The North Carolina—NC State rivalry is about to get more exciting.

NC State advanced to the ACC Tournament title game with a 73-65 overtime victory over UVA on Friday night. DJ Burns Jr. led the Wolfpack with 19 points in the upset victory.

Michael O’Connell hit the shot of the night, however, forcing overtime with a buzzer-beating three-pointer to tie the game at the end of regulation.

Despite playing four games in as many days, NC State showed no signs of exhaustion as the Wolfpack maintained its late lead against the Cavaliers.

The 10th-seeded Wolfpack now has the chance to win the program’s first conference tournament title since 1987.

It’s quite the turnaround for the Wolfpack, which finished the regular season with four straight losses and was projected as a likely early elimination heading into the ACC Tournament.

After upsetting UVA and handing Duke the team’s first conference tournament opening loss since 2013, NC State has turned that around by becoming the first double-digit seed to reach the ACC Tournament final since 2007.

Expect NC State to lean on the team’s reserves tonight. Bench players were a crucial difference maker against Duke as the Wolfpack’s reserves outscored the Blue Devils 21-0.

UNC has proven all season long that its defense is good enough to hold ranked opponents below its usual shooting average.

Since the NCAA committee’s early bracket put UNC as a No. 2 seed ranked fifth overall in February, the Tar Heels are undefeated. Only the Big 12’s top-ranked Houston can say the same.

North Carolina previously defeated NC State in both regular-season matchups, winning 67-54 in Raleigh on Jan. 10 and 79-70 in Chapel Hill on March 2.

The Tar Heels are the clear favorite to win over the Wolfpack, which capitalized on defensive breakdowns by the Cavaliers and Blue Devils.
