Ademola Lookman: Atalanta boss Gasperini rates ‘excellent’ Super Eagles star after Monza clash

Atalanta BC manager Gian Piero Gasperini has revealed his satisfaction with Ademola Lookman’s display in the win over Monza on Sunday, Soccernet.ng reports.

Lookman delivered a man-of-the-match performance to power Atalanta to a tough 2-1 victory over away to Monza in their Serie A clash.

The Super Eagles attacker assisted both goals to hand Atalanta their 16th league win of the season, which pushed them into the sixth spot on the championship table.

Lookman sent in a corner for Charles De Ketelaere to head home the game’s opener just before halftime.

Midway through the second half, the former Leicester City attacker danced past a couple of tackles to set up Malian striker El Bilal Touré, who applied a simple finish for Atalanta’s second goal.

For his display, Lookman earned a near-perfect Sofascore rating of 9.1, the highest given to any player who featured in the game from both teams.

After the encounter, Gasperini applauded Atalanta’s goal scorers against Monza, but he reserved special praise for Lookman.

“El Bilal did well, Charles did well, Lookman did well, who had a truly excellent match,” the Italian tactician said, as per Tutto Atalanta.

“They were good; they pressed, played with quality, and put Monza in difficulty.”

Lookman has eight goals and six assists in 26 league appearances for Atalanta this term.

In the Italian top division, only six players have assisted more goals than the Nigeria international.
