Akufo Addo Says Rail To Paga Wont Materialize In His Tenure.

Referring to the little time ahead of his administration, President Akufo Addo has conceded that he is unable to connect the north to the south by rail transport. It is one of the conspicuous blanks on the list of provisions for the people of Ghana, and highlights a campaign promise failure.

However, the NPP government he leads has a basis for giving the people a long-range view of possible fulfillment because of the studious work done in the sector as far as the southern parts of the country are concerned.

He said the work is almost completed on the 100-kilometer rail from Tema Port to Mpakadan, in the Asuogyaman district of the Eastern region.  The President describes the facility as a new standard gauge rail that straddles towns like Afienya, Doryumu, Kpong, and Juapong. Ghana has acquired State-of-the-art trains from Poland to ply the route.

The project had barely started when the previous government lost elections in 2016. The rail transport on this route is to divert and facilitate the movement of bulk consignments from vehicular traffic on the central corridor towards the north of Ghana and Africa’s Sahel.
