The Member of Parliament for Awutu Senya West, Gizella Tetteh Agbotui, has raised concerns over a proposed change of venue for the coalition centre at her constituency for the upcoming elections.

The Awutu Bereku Durbar ground has been the coalition centre for the elections for the past eight years.

However, there are suggestions for a change.

Addressing the leadership of the local council of churches in Bawjiase on Sunday, November 24, Ms. Agbotui revealed that the police have proposed relocating the centre to Awutu Winton Senior High School.

This latest development, she said, might disrupt the peace at Awutu Senya West.

ā€œJust last week, we were invited by the police to the regional command and were told that the IGP is proposing a new venue, and this is the Awutu Bereku Durbar ground.

ā€œMy problem is, why is the IGP proposing that venue since we all agreed to the durbar grounds? It is not good for the peace we are enjoying now.

ā€œIn the last elections, there were some vigilante groups in Obrakyere to steal the ballot boxes, but one of them was arrested and beaten by the angry mob. I want to urge you all to report any suspicious act to the police for onward action,ā€ she noted.

Meanwhile, the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, has called on Ghanaians to support the police in maintaining peace and security during the 2024 general elections by identifying and reporting individuals who threaten national stability.

Dr. Dampare emphasised the importance of community collaboration in preventing election-related violence, highlighting that public vigilance is critical to addressing potential security risks.

ā€œWe may not reach everybody, so what it means is that there could be a few others who still think they can attempt to disturb the peace of this country. Those peopleā€”you may be in the community; you may hear of them; you may see them. Our prayer is to allow yourself to be used as a vessel of God to let us know those people so we can give them a place designated for them,ā€ he stated.
