Amad reveals toughest Red to train against

Manchester United winger Amad says he finds Lisandro Martinez the most difficult current Reds player to go up against in training.

The Ivorian had little hesitation in picking Licha, while responding to the question from James in the UK, during his Melitta Fans’ Q&A.

Since joining the club before the start of last season, Martinez has become a supporters’ favourite, in large part down to the relentless energy, passion and physicality he plays with on the pitch.

Amad says that is not something that Lisandro only brings out on matchdays, and it therefore makes him his toughest opponent at Carrington.

“Licha [is the most difficult player to face in training],” the young winger says.

“He’s very strong in the training. For him, the training is like the Champions League final.

“He never trains easy, he goes stronger, so it’s harder to train against him.”

As a primarily right-sided forward, the 21-year-old will have likely been able to get a taste of directly duelling with left-sided defender Lisandro this campaign, even if the pair have each spent significant periods of the term sidelined due to injury.

Amad is, of course, back from his knee issue suffered in pre-season now, while Martinez continues to recover from sustaining his own knee problem, shortly after his January return from foot surgery.

The winger previously spoke to club media about how Licha – and Casemiro – mentored him while they were in the treatment room together earlier in 2023/24.

“Lisandro Martinez helped me a lot because he was injured also,” he explained to us, during an interview released after his late-December comeback away to Nottingham Forest.

“Every time, when we are at training, he spoke with me and said: ‘It’s nothing, Amad. Keep training hard’. Lisandro Martinez and Casemiro also. They are good leaders.”

With that in mind, Amad will no doubt be hoping to see Lisandro return to the training pitches – and United’s backline – sooner rather than later.

Our no.6 has been out since picking up his injury against West Ham on 4 February, and he was initially forecasted to miss at least eight weeks, as a result.
