America Ferrera FaceTimed Her ‘Sisters’ From ‘Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants’ After Her ‘Barbie’ Oscar Nomination

Just as Blake Lively predicted, America Ferrera is officially an Oscar-nominated actor.

Ferrera is nominated for best supporting actress for her role as Gloria in the Barbie movie, which makes complete sense, considering she’s the one who delivers the feminist monologue that sparked so many tears and think pieces. And while she and fellow Oscar nominee Ryan Gosling have both expressed disappointment that Greta Gerwig and Margot Robbie were snubbed, Ferrera’s achievement is definitely cause for celebration. That’s where her Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants costars come in.

Following the announcement, Ferrera took to Instagram to share the congratulatory FaceTime she had with some of her “sisters”—former costars Alexis Bledel, Amber Tamblyn, and of course, Blake Lively.

“There was a lot of screaming with some of my sisters on FaceTime,” Ferrera wrote in the caption of her post, which also featured a reenactment of the moment she found out about her first Oscar nomination, since her husband, Ryan Piers Williams (who also played her husband in the Barbie movie), had been busy driving their children to school when the news dropped. Luckily she’s an actor!

“I’m still processing,” Ferrera continued in the caption. “Needless to say—wow! What a thing! Childhood dream realized. 😭🤯 Thank you @theacademy @barbiethemovie and the Queens Greta and Margot who we all know deserve everything for what they gifted the world! 💖”

Tamblyn shared the screenshot on Instagram Stories, writing, “Can confirm we rushed to FaceTime our girl while she was still in bed mere minutes after she got the news about her Oscar nomination.” Per Good Morning America, she continued, “I just feel so proud of you @americaferrera. So much joy and love for you and all your hard work. Lucky us we get to share these incredibly special moments in each other’s lives.”

This is not the first time the SotTP gang came together to celebrate America Ferrera’s record-smashing film. Back in December, Tamblyn, Bledel, and Lively got all dressed up in pink for a SAG-AFTRA screening in New York City. “💕The Sisterhood came through all in pink to celebrate my performance in Barbie last night,” Ferrera captioned her Instagram reel at the time. “I love these women with all my heart.💕 #SisterhoodForever 👩‍❤️‍👩 🧳👖.”

Lively later took to Instagram to gush about Ferrera’s performance, calling her friend “the heart and soul” of the Barbie movie. “I’ve known her for 20 years. Since I was 16. I’ve watched her live, grow, soar, fall, make, break, push, fight, win, create, forge, disrupt, way make, lead, lead, lead,” Lively wrote. “That speech she gives as Gloria felt as close to real as anything I’ve ever seen on screen. Because that’s who she is. She’s that spectacular, passionate, inspiring and full of heart in her own life.”

She continued, “I can’t wait to watch her sweep awards up across her living room floor. No one deserves it more… for a lifetime of brilliant work.”

Personally, I couldn’t be more ready for a third Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants movie, especially as we near the original film’s 20th anniversary in 2025. I mean, it’s already been eight years since Ferrera promised the project was “definitely in the works” in 2016, though they had not received the official green light at the time.

“There is a script being written,” Ferrera said on The Meredith Vieira Show. “They’re my girls—three of my best friends to this day.”
