American prodigy Jason West eyeing back-to-back wins in Miami as T100 draws closer

Having been one of the standout performers in middle distance racing last season, PTO World #3 Jason West is rightly being talked about as one of the favourites for the upcoming T100 Triathlon World Tour.

Originally from Pennsylvania, the 30-year-old is now based in Boulder and has big plans for the first race of the T100 Tour in Florida, after taking the win there 12 months ago when it was CLASH Miami.

Chasing the first world championship title over the 100km distance, West will have his work cut out against a top-class field, but the American shared his belief in a statement to the PTO that he can take the top spot.

“The PTO Tour was huge for me last year”

Looking back on last season, West shared that his results on the PTO Tour were incredibly important, with three top five performances cementing his spot as one of the world’s top ranked athletes.

Despite his success, however, a win over the 100km distance has so far eluded him, with second behind Jan Frodeno at the PTO Tour US Open in Milwaukee his best result on the circuit in 2023.

Having also finished third at the PTO Tour Asian Open in Singapore behind Kristian Blummenfelt and Pieter Heemeryck, West admitted that “the PTO Tour was huge for me last year”.

“A great way to open the season”

With the T100 Tour getting underway in less than one month’s time in Miami, West said that the race at the Homestead-Miami Speedway will offer the perfect opportunity to start the season as he means to go on.

“My focus for 2024 will be on trying to build on those performances and the Miami T100 at Clash Endurance Miami offers a great way to open the season.

“I want to be the first World Champion at the 100km distance, so winning again at Homestead-Miami Speedway would get that ambition off to a positive start.”

This year, the PTO have collaborated with CLASH Endurance for the CLASH Endurance Miami weekend, which will feature the Miami T100 on March 9.
