Americans Abroad Midweek Preview: Sargent, McKennie, and more

Norwich City lost its last two EFL Championship matches to close 2023 but Josh Sargent will be pushing to lead the Canaries to a first positive result of the new year on Monday.

Sargent made his long-awaited return for David Wagner’s side on Friday in a 1-0 road loss to Millwall. The U.S. men’s national team forward missed ample time due to an ankle injury suffered in August, but is back and ready to play a key role during the second half of the season. Sargent scored three goals in his first four appearances of the 2023-24 campaign and will be eager to rekindle that strong form, starting with Monday’s home showdown vs. Southampton.

In England, Chris Richards and Crystal Palace host Everton in FA Cup play. Haji Wright and Coventry City visit Middlesbrough in EFL Championship action.

In Italy, a quartet of USMNT players including Weston McKennie and Christian Pulisic aim to advance their clubs in the Coppa Italia competition.
