Anna Margo Unveils Seductive EP ‘If You’re Still There’

Los Angeles-based artist, producer, and multi-instrumentalist Anna Margo releases her EP, If You’re Still There, a stylish mixture of pop melodies riding alt-R&B rhythms, laced with brilliant piano interludes.

Classically trained, Margo grew up playing Beethoven, Chopin, Bach, and Rachmaninoff, as well as Hans Zimmer and Ramin Djawadi. Early on, she studied vocalists like Christina Aguilera and Mariah Carey. Later, she attended the famed Berklee College of Music.

In 2021, she released “Place,” followed by “Bad Friend,” “Know You,” and “Something To Lose.” She then worked with Timbaland on “My Way.” The two co-produced the EP’s opening track, “You,” and the seductive “Last Dance.”

Of the half dozen tracks on If You’re Still There, highlights include “You,” a lush, R&B-infused song that reveals Margo’s soulful vocals, oozing nuanced, passionate tones. Whereas “Last Dance” mingles hints of waltz-like motion with dreamy R&B vocals, resulting in a sensuous, beckoning flow.

There’s a delicious alt-pop sway to “Ghost,” a low-slung song riding a contagious rhythm topped by Margo’s evocative voice, ranging from voluptuous sighing timbres to more potent, elevated tones. For some reason, “For My Best Friend,” a personal favorite because of its gossamer, interweaving harmonies, is vaguely reminiscent of Sade because of its yummy sophisti-pop sensation.

The final track, “I Don’t Mind,” travels on a drifting melody that undulates on low, sweeping layers accented by a distant, haunting trumpet.

Suffused in plush elements of R&B and pop that radiate an erogenous abandon, If You’re Still There centers on the impassioned vocals of Anna Margo.
