Anthony Edwards playing with surprising mindset ahead of Lakers series, per Timberwolves guard

Minnesota Timberwolves star Anthony Edwards is gearing up for his fourth career trip to the postseason.

As a veteran and focal point of the franchise, Edwards is now viewed as a leader by his teammates, no matter their age or tenure.

He recognizes this new leadership role and embraces the changes necessary to elevate Minnesota in a grim opening round series against the Los Angeles Lakers. Timberwolves guard Nickeil Alexander-Walker can attest to Edwards’ growth and team-oriented mindset heading into the playoffs.

“You can see that he’s really imposing his leadership and getting guys involved,” Alexander-Walker said Thursday afternoon. “Very vocal and giving out confidence for what to expect. I think it’s important that we all have the mindset of ‘being ready and staying ready.’”

Edwards is averaging 27.4 points, 5.7 rebounds, 4.5 assists, and 1.2 steals this season. But even for his Michael Jordan-esque play style and mentality, he knows that he has to adopt a selfless mindset to elevate the rest of his team.

“He’s kind of humbly taken that step back to say, ‘Listen, this might not be the Ant series because I’m gonna need you guys because of how they’re gonna play me,’” Alexander-Walker said. “He’s gonna be aggressive, he’s gonna be Ant, that’s not a doubt. But just making sure everyone is right there with him, all of us as one getting to that goal and that finish line together.”
