Arsenal could allow England international to leave on loan

Arsenal will hope to continue their promising pre-season form when they face Premier League rivals Liverpool on Thursday.

The Gunners drew 1-1 with Bournemouth in their first friendly of the summer – winning a subsequent penalty shoot-out – before defeating Manchester United 2-1 in their most recent match.

Manager Mikel Arteta has already added versatile defender Riccardo Calafoiri to his squad, with the Italy international joining from Serie A side Bologna.

Goalkeeper David Raya, who spent last season on loan at The Emirates, has also completed a permanent switch from Brentford.

The Spaniard’s move to Arsenal had prompted widespread speculation that England international ‘keeper Aaron Ramsdale would be sold this summer, but Football Insider claims that the 26-year-old could instead be allowed to leave on loan.

It is claimed that the Gunners were set to demand a significant asking price for the Englishman as they look to offload him this summer, but the North London outfit could now accept loan offers.

Ramsdale played just 11 times for Arsenal last season

Premier League sides Nottingham Forest and Southampton are both said to be interested in taking the five-time England international on loan for the upcoming season.

Ramsdale joined Arsenal from Sheffield United in the summer of 2021, and was Arteta’s first choice ‘keeper throughout his first two seasons in the capital.

He fell down the pecking order when Raya arrived on loan from the Bees last summer, though, and was restricted to just six Premier League appearances last term.

In total, Ramsdale has kept 32 clean sheets in 89 games for Arsenal across all competitions.

Ramsdale is contracted to Arsenal for two more years and, although it had looked almost certain that he would be sold this summer, the Englishman could now instead leave North London on loan for the upcoming campaign.
