Arsenal likely to drop out of race for Bundesliga star
Arsenal will hope to return to winning ways when they welcome struggling Leicester City to The Emirates on Saturday afternoon. Â
The Gunners battled to a 2-2 draw against Premier League leaders Manchester City last weekend, despite having ten players for the entire second-half.
Mikel Arteta will have been pleased by his side’s performance at The Etihad, despite conceding an equaliser deep into added time.
The Foxes arrive in North London without a win in the league so far this term, although they are unbeaten in their last two.
Ahead of Saturday’s match, it has emerged that Arsenal are unlikely to pursue a move for one of the Bundesliga’s biggest stars.
According to GiveMeSport, the Gunners aren’t likely to make a formal offer for Bayer Leverkusen tar Florian Wirtz.
Arsenal are set to drop out of the race to sign Wirtz
It is claimed that Arsenal still have significant interest in the Germany international, but they are likely to drop out of the race for the player.
Wirtz, 21, was instrumental in helping Xabi Alonso’s side to a league and cup double last term, scoring 18 times and registering 20 assists across all competitions.
After playing for Germany at the European Championships over the summer, the attacking midfielder has started the new campaign in fine form.
He has already scored six times this season, but Leverkusen are said to be preparing for the player’s departure after keeping hold of him beyond this summer’s window.
Wirtz had attracted interest from several clubs across Europe, including Arsenal, but he chose to stay put at Leverkusen for at least one more season.
Premier League rivals Liverpool and Manchester City are believed to be rivalling the Gunners for the signing of Wirtz.
Spanish giants Real Madrid and Barcelona are said to be interested in the German, as well as fellow Bundesliga side Bayern Munich.
