Arsenal loanee confirms surgery in social media post as Fulham suffer injury blow
Arsenal winger Reiss Nelson reveals he has undergone in a social media post after suffering an injury setback during his loan spell with Fulham.
Arsenal loanee Reiss Nelson has revealed that he has undergone surgery following a recent injury setback.
Nelson joined Fulham on a season-long loan deal in the summer, but he has been restricted to 12 Premier League appearances due to injury.
The winger has been out of action since picking up a hamstring injury in a home win against Brighton & Hove Albion on December 12.
The initial expectation was that Nelson would be sidelined for 10 weeks, but Marco Silva has since revealed that Nelson has sustained another injury issue.
Earlier this month, Silva told reporters: “Nelson got another injury in the other leg two days ago. It looks serious again, it’s a big blow for us.”
“I feel really sorry for Reiss Nelson, he was excited and working with the team. It’s going to be a longer period out. He’s so so important for us. We are going to be without him for a long period again.”

Nelson confirms surgery in social media post
Nelson has now taken to social media to reveal that he has undergone a successful operation following the recent injury setback.
The 25-year-old posted the news of his surgery on Instagram alongside an image of himself in a hospital bed with his thumbs up.
The Arsenal loanee wrote: “Life and football are all about setbacks and comebacks. This one hurts, but it’s just part of the journey.
“Surgery went well, I’m focused and determined to return stronger than ever.”
Will Nelson’s injury setback affect Fulham’s European push?
Silva will be disappointed that he will not be able to call upon Nelson as one of his wide options for the foreseeable future.
To make matters worse, Fulham are also without the services of Harry Wilson, who is expected to be out until April with a foot injury.
However, the Cottagers will hope that Nelson and Wilson’s injury will not affect their European bid too much after they recently re-signed Willian to help provide cover in wide areas.
They also have Adama Traore, Alex Iwobi and Martial Godo as their current wide options, although another injury in that position would certainly test Fulham’s strength in depth.
The Cottagers are currently sitting in eighth place and four points adrift of fifth spot after they recorded a 2-1 victory over Nottingham Forest on Saturday.
