Arsenal on cusp of English top-flight goal record after West Ham victory

Arsenal have tied an English top-flight record for most away games with at least five goals scored in a single calendar year across all competitions.

The Gunners put five past West Ham United in an eventful 5-2 win at the London Stadium – the fifth time Arsenal have scored five goals away from home in 2024.

The current record for an English top-flight side sits at five games. Sunderland managed the feat across 1892 and Manchester City matched their record in 1937, and Arsenal have now tied the honour in 2024.

Mikel Arteta’s side still have time to claim the record for their own, with two more away matches still on their Premier League schedule before the end of the calendar year.

Arsenal will first make the trip to Fulham on December 8 and then, after hosting Everton, they will be back on the road for the short journey across London to Crystal Palace on December 21.

The 5-2 win over West Ham was the second time Arsenal struck five this season. The Gunners put five past Sporting CP just four days before matching the feat against the Hammers.

Last season, Arsenal also recorded back-to-back away games with at least five goals. February brought a 6-0 win over West Ham and a 5-0 victory against Burnley in quick succession. After one game of only scoring four, Arsenal then beat a sorry Sheffield United side 6-0 at Bramall Lane.
