Astros get good news on Yordan Alvarez amid injury recovery
The Houston Astros have been staying afloat while their superstar slugger, Yordan Alvarez, sits on the injured list. While the team is atop the American League West, getting Alvarez back into the lineup would be a huge boost to the team’s confidence and offense.
Astros writer Michael Schwab shared on Twitter/X that during an interview on the Sean Unfiltered show, Dana Brown provided a positive update on the injury recovery of Alvarez.
“Day-to-day thing, he feels a lot better”
He is not taking swings right now

— Michael Schwab (@michaelschwab13) June 18, 2025 Brown called Alvarez “day-to-day,” and Alvarez “feels a lot better now.” But, while he’s feeling better and day-to-day, he hasn’t been taking swings. With Alvarez down with a hand injury, it’s no surprise the Astros are being cautious and taking their time in bringing him back.
The team is eyeing a deep postseason run, but rushing Alvarez back could risk re-injury or overcompensating and hurting a different part of the body. There is little incentive to rush him back, especially with how great the team has played in his absence.
Alvarez hasn’t played for the Astros since May 2nd and is in the middle of a long injured list stint. But this update from Brown is a positive sign and is good news for his potential return to the lineup.
The three-time All-Star, Rookie of the Year, Silver Slugger, ALCS MVP, and World Series Champion is a huge part of the Astros organization. The 27-year-old is a few days away from turning 28, and as he’s in the middle of his seventh season with the team, he’s piecing together a strong career.
But, Alvarez struggled to begin the year, batting just .210 and sitting at a .646 OPS, over .200 lower than his previous career low. During his incredible six years before 2025, Alvarez had an average OPS+ of 166, but in 2025, his OPS+ of 82 is less than half his average.
His struggles at the plate have been apparent, but once he’s healthy and back in the lineup, the expectation is that he turns things back around and becomes the hitter he’s shown he is in the previous six seasons.
As Alvarez is working his way back, this update from Brown is good news. It’s a sign that Alvarez is getting closer to returning, and that the injury isn’t as impactful as it once was. While Alvarez won’t be back right away, this update is a positive sign that things are trending in the right direction.
