Ghana’s Black Queens have been placed in Level 2 ahead of the 2025 African Women’s Cup of Nations (AWCON) draw, which is scheduled to take place at the Mohammed VI Complex in Morocco later today.
This seeding will likely influence the teams they will face in the tournament.
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has announced that the 12 participating teams have been classified into four levels based on the latest FIFA rankings:
Level 1: Morocco (host), Nigeria, and South Africa –
Level 2: Zambia, Ghana, and Tunisia –
Level 3: Mali, Senegal, and Algeria –
Level 4: DR Congo, Tanzania, and Botswana.
As the host nation, Morocco will lead Group A, while South Africa, the defending champions, will head Group C. Nigeria, a dominant force in African women’s football, will take charge of Group B.
The remaining teams will be drawn into these groups to complete the lineup.
In preparation for the tournament, the Black Queens’ coach, Nora Hauptle, has been actively scouting for talented Ghanaian players in Europe.
Her efforts proved fruitful during the 2024 qualifiers, where the Black Queens achieved a 3-1 victory over Namibia.
The upcoming draw is expected to reveal exciting matchups for the Black Queens.
