Baltimore Ravens named potential trade destination for Davante Adams
The Baltimore Ravens could be in the mix for a Pro Bowl receiver.
Las Vegas Raiders wide receiver Davante Adams reportedly wants a trade to a new team after over two seasons with the Raiders.
NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reports that Adams would prefer a trade to the New York Jets to reunite with quarterback Aaron Rodgers.
However, according to Rapoport, there are multiple teams that have reached out to the Raiders to inquire about Adams or would be places that Adams would be happy landing — including the Ravens.
Rapoport also named the New Orleans Saints, Pittsburgh Steelers, Buffalo Bills, Dallas Cowboys and “perhaps” the San Francisco 49ers.
It’s unclear whether the Ravens have inquired about Adams or are just a spot where he would be happy to land.
Rapoport reports that a trade is not close and may not get done until next week at he earliest.
Ravens fans shouldn’t get too excited yet, as “inquiring” doesn’t necessarily indicate a strong level of interest; it could just be gauging the price for Adams.
And if the Ravens are a team that Adams is interested in being traded to, there is still a matter of Baltimore out-bidding other teams. According to Rapoport, the Raiders are looking for at least a second-round pick for Adams.
The Ravens would need to create cap space to land Adams or Adams would need to restructure his contract. The 32-year-old is making $16.8 million this season, with a $25.3 million cap hit. Adams has two years and $71 million remaining on his contract, but it is non-guaranteed, according to Spotrac.
An aging receiver with a big contract doesn’t necessarily fit the bill of the type of players the Ravens have historically targeted.Â
Of course, there could be benefits, too. The Ravens are suddenly well-positioned in a shaky AFC, and they might hope to keep Adams from landing with the injury-depleted Kansas City Chiefs, with their AFC North rival Steelers, or with the Bills.
Baltimore has thus far leaned on its run game to great success, but they will eventually need to throw it again, and it’s unclear if their current weapons can lead to success. Adams would certainly add an interesting dynamic to the Ravens offense.
