Barcelona’s renewal of Frenkie De Jong back on track
Barcelona have been working on renewing star midfielder Frenkie De Jong for quite a while but it seems the final hurdle might be out of the way.
Barcelona want to renew the Dutch midfielder until 2029 and to complete the agreement before the end of the window.
De Jong’s current deal ends in 2026, so it’s key for Barcelona to get a renewal done as soon as possible
De Jong Departs From AgentThe main roadblock in negotiations between De Jong and Barcelona was his agent at the time, Ali Dursun. Ali was refusing any renewal offer from Barcelona as part of the contract offer was to defer wages De Jong was owed from the pandemic.
De Jong seemingly wants to renew one way or another and decided to change his agent to prevent any further conflicts in negotiations.
Sport reports that De Jong’s new agent Sebastian Ladura was in Barcelona today to meet with Deco and there is a “good vibe” around the negotiations.
What It Means For BarcelonaFor Barcelona, this means getting more help in their quest to reach that famous 1:1 rule and this renewal should be another step in the right direction.
As mentioned, De Jong’s wages will be deferred and he will be making a lot less than before. On the pitch, they keep one of their key players for four more years and have the ability to sell for a good fee if they ever need to.Â
It seems like both sides are happy to get a deal done and a renewal is likely to be agreed upon soon enough.
