Bella Thorne Reacts to Criticism After Proposing to Mark Emms

Bella Thorne is shaking it up—by getting engaged again.

The Disney Channel alum proposed to fiancé Mark Emms over two years after he first popped the question in May 2023.

“3 years ago we met,” Bella captioned an Instagram carousel post documenting her proposal August 16. “1 year later he proposed, Now 1 year later so did I.”

The 27-year-old included photos and videos of her popping the question to Mark surrounded by candles, flowers and heart-shaped balloons seemingly at home. She was dressed casually in black pants, a white sweatshirt and heels with her hair pulled back in a ponytail, while Mark was wearing a black tee, jeans and a baseball hat.

Bella also shared two selfies in which the 45-year-old is kissing her on the cheek as they celebrated their additional engagement.

After comments rolled in under the Shake It Up actress’ post, she had a laugh at the divided reaction to her proposal.

“The comments on my post are hilarious!!” Bella wrote on her Instagram Stories August 17 over a photo of Mark playing with their dog. “Totally split down the middle. Half of u are like let’s not normalize proposing to your partner — other half is like f–k yeah girl power this is the sweetest!!”

The entrepreneur himself proposed to Bella at her home in California back in May of 2023, one year after they met on the beach in Ibiza during pal Cara Delevingne’s birthday party.

Bella—who ended her engagement to Benjamin Mascolo in 2022—also shared her vision for their wedding at the time, noting that she wanted to get married on an estate in the English countryside while wearing vintage Schiaparelli or Dior. 

“Every bride does not need one gown,” she exclaimed, “but four!”
