Besiktas eye another Nigerian star, alongside Samuel Chukwueze, as Ciro Immobile’s replacement
16-time Super Lig champions, Besiktas, have emerged as one of the top contenders for the signature of Nigerian striker, Paul Onuachu, Soccernet.ng reports.
Earlier reports suggest that the Turkish side are eyeing a move for Samuel Chukwueze, who is currently struggling at AC Milan.
Meanwhile, new reports circulating in the Italian media outlet reveal that Besiktas are targeting Onuachu to replace Ciro Immobile should the Italian striker depart the club that joined them in 2024 and has a contract that ends in 2026.
The Turkish giants are keen to reinforce their attacking options, and Onuachu, known for his physicality and goal-scoring ability, fits the bill as an ideal candidate.
The 30-year-old former Trabzonspor star had a standout season last year, scoring 17 goals and providing four assists in 25 appearances.
His impressive performances have caught the attention of several clubs, but Beşiktaş is said to be at the forefront of negotiations, eager to bring him to Istanbul to bolster their offensive line.
Reports indicate that Beşiktaş’s management is closely monitoring Onuachu’s situation, particularly as Immobile’s future remains uncertain.
Should the Italian striker leave, the Nigerian duo of Chukwueze and Onuachu could form a formidable attacking partnership, strengthening the club’s ambitions in both domestic and international competitions.
With Southampton initially refusing to let Onuachu leave, Beşiktaş hopes to finalise a deal to secure his services and ensure the team remains competitive in the event of key player departures.
