Best Illaoi Counters In League of Legends

Do you need help to lane against Illaoi in League of Legends? Not to worry, here are the best champions to help you climb the LoL ladder.

The one versus two machine, Illaoi since her release has always been one of the strongest Bruisers in League of Legends. She is very hard to lane against thanks to her annoying tentacles, and even with Jungle intervention, she has the potential to just 1v2 the lane, making it almost impossible to lose. The question is, how do you actually stop Illaoi? ESTNN in here to rbring you the three best Illaoi counters in League of Legends.

Best Illaoi Counters in LoL
Kayle
Kayle is one of the harder matchups for Illaoi in League of Legends. The first few levels are not so bad, but eventually, there comes a point where Kayle simply outsclaes Illaoi and there is nothing she can do about it. Kayle has the range advantage, especially when her passive evolves later in the game. On top of that, her ultimate can completely negate any damage from Illaoi’s ultimate if you manage to be in her attack range for some reason. Play within the minions. That way, Illaoi is unable to use her E ability on you. Once her E is on cooldown, the lane is yours for the taking as you can easily kit back, doing lots of damage in the process. Once your passive evolves Illaoi will have difficulty dealing with you in the side lanes. Split pushing with Kayle in the late game will mean Illaoi will have to choose between playing with the team and letting you take the towers or trying to answer Kayle and losing gracefully.

Mordekaiser

This is a very even matchup outside of who uses their ultimate first. You want to use your ultimate after Illaoi has used hers. Because once you do, all of her tentacles will disappear, leading to an easy kill. You are stronger early on, so make sure to manage the waves properly so she cannot use her E on you. Whenever she goes up for an attack, pull her in with you E, providing she doesn’t have her ult up. The damage you receive will prock your damage and even out the duel. You will force Illaoi to adjust her build, so try to take full advantage of her weakened strength, depending on how the lane is going.

Trundle
Patience is key if you are picking Trundle as an Illaoi counter in League of Legends. Early on, you can trade with her before all of her tentacles are at large. The simple way of attacking this lane is to bait out her E. Simply walk up to her, wait for her to use it, and then walk away. When it is on cool down, you go back in for a trade. You also will need to bait out her ultimate. Although Trundle’s ultimate is strong, Illaoi will slice through you like butter with her ultimate. So it is best to play the long game and get small advantages. You should not have any problems going up against Illaoi the later the game goes on. You can split push faster than she can, even with Hullbreaker. So, do your best to pull her around the map and keep her away from teamfights.

Although he is a relatively safe champion to pick in most match ups in League of Legends,  Renekton is one of the worst champions to play into Illaoi. Over 4000 games, according to Mobalytics, Renekton has just over a 43% win-rate. As long as you do not die in the first three levels, where Renekton is very powerful, you will have no problems laning into him. You have enough strength with your ultimate to one-shot him. As soon as you pop your ultimate he will look to dash away, or stupidly try to counter with his ultimate. Just wait it out, he will then return to normal health and you can kill him then.

According to Mobalytics, here are the best champions to play with Illaoi in League of Legends on patch 14.4. Please note that this article will be updated as new patches are released.
