Best Overwatch Players – Who are the top Overwatch players?
Overwatch is one of the biggest Esports titles in the world. It has a huge following, and the skill level in the top tiers of the game is pretty high. The best Overwatch players in the world are those that sit right on top of this skill level.
These are the players who push the definitions of what is possible in the game’s new esports, and the old Overwatch League. Power rankings were great, but without the formal League format things will be a bit more complicated.
With a new esports format coming for Overwatch, there’s going to be increased interest in the competitive side of the game. We won’t get the same teams returning to the game. Some of the same players likely will be returning though. Even for the new players, those who reached the heights of winning the OWL are a great example of how far you can take this game. Who are those top flight of competitors, the best Overwatch players?
The Best Overwatch 2 Players
With Overwatch esports basically done after the end of last year, we had a few adjustments. A lot of players left. There wasn’t a huge future for the game and we saw major changes to a lot of rosters and active players. The Finals are still an impressive display of what can be done with Overwatch 2. We can’t bank on any of these players jumping back in the 2024 season of competitive Overwatch. However, these are a great example for those new teams to look at for how far they can take things.
5. Ch0r0ng
Source: Blizzard
Ch0r0ng is a Korean player who made up part of Florida Mayhem’s 2023 OWL winning squad. The Support player was a vital part of the team that won the very final playoffs, up there as one of the strongest supports in the game. He had a decent run across Overwatch tournaments, making the jump up to the League proper in 2021. He only served on the Florida Mayhem for a single season. Given it was the season that cemented Florida’s place though, it was definitely impactful.
4. Checkmate
Source: Blizzard
Checkmate is another Korean former Florida Mayhem player who makes the list of the best Overwatch players. While only 22, he’s been playing Overwatch since 2019 professionally. He made the jump up to Florida Mayhem in 2020 and was a key part of their teams’ growth. Checkmate was on the roster that took the Florida Mayhem through their 7-8th place finish, to full Champions.
He hasn’t entirely checked out of Overwatch since the League ended either. Checkmate has stuck around playing in the Saudi eLeague. He’ll be a key contender once we start the new format for OW esports.
3. Rupal
Source: Blizzard
Rupal is a rare non-Korean player who has made the current list of best Overwatch players! He’s another member of last year’s champions, the Florida Mayhem. As the second Support player, he along with Checkmate was key in their victory.
He’s only 21 years old, having played for various teams since 2020. Rupal is now part of a University team and could carry on as an impressive player in OW in 2024. He finished last year winning the Flash Ops Holiday Showdown, so has definitely kept on top of the game’s tournaments.
2. Someone
Source: Blizzard
Getting towards the top of the best Overwatch players, we’re not just looking at last years’ Champions. There are players like Someone who have stood out for honors within the League as individuals too. In the last season, he not only was part of the Champion squad but won the overall 2023 Overwatch League MVP. Since then, he’s gone on to come third in the Saudi eLeague, so could definitely still be a contender in 2024’s OW esports.
1. Mer1t
Source: Blizzard
With all the changes to the ecosystem, it is difficult to pick a single best active OW player. The MBP of the Grand Final for winning Florida Mayhem might be the closest to that though. Mer1t performed fantastically in the final, securing the final Champion status for Florida.
Mer1t is a particularly important part of the last OWL Champion Squad. Not only did the player perform well in the matches that saw them grasp their title, but he also walked away with the MVP award. Out of the entire game, Mer1t was definitely the standout. It’ll be players like Merit which show what can be done in Overwatch when the new format starts back up.

So far in 2023, Houston has missed out a couple of times, coming 2nd in the midseason Madness and 3-4th in the Pro-Am. While he doesn’t have the pedigree of some Dallas players, Houston could be staging a comeback this year and Happy is a key part of that.
9. Kim “Bliss” So-Myung
Source: Blizzard
Bliss just makes the list for the best Overwatch 2 players thanks to the great 2023 season he’s been a part of. Bliss is on Duel Fuel right now, the team that sits right at the top of the Overwatch League 2023 power rankings.
As a Support, he’s a key part of this team. Prior to Dallas Fuel, bliss primarily played in Contenders so he is a bit more untested compared to other inclusions here. He was part of a squad there which did great things in 2022 though, and his 2023 season is showing he can cut it in the main League too. As one of the supports to make the best Overwatch players, it’ll be interesting to see if he has any cool pans for the new Support hero.

Profit might not have had the biggest impact in the 2022 playoffs, but he’s been strong this season. He’s another member of the Dallas Fuel squad, playing DPS as Tracer and others. He’s been with the team since in 2020, in that time taking them from 3rd in 2021, to Champions in 2022, and looking strong to repeat it in 2023.
