Best Virginia Cruises in TBT Opener

Pittsburgh – Best Virginia buried 14 threes and rolled in the opening round of the Pittsburgh Regional in The Basketball Tournament (TBT) Saturday afternoon 94-69.

Best Virginia opened the game on an 11-0 run, sparked by forward Esa Ahmad grabbing the offensive rebound, got the putback and the foul and forward Devin Williams capped the run with a bucket and the foul.

Guard Marcus Keene led Best Virginia in scoring in the first quarter with a trio of threes for nine points to help propel the lead to 14 while guard Xavier Bledson hit a pair of three in the final two minutes to give the Mountaineers a 35-13 advantage at the end of the first quarter.

Best Virginia started the second quarter on an 8-2 run for a 45-17 advantage, but BV went on a four-minute scoring drought while Brotherly Love chipped away to cut the deficit to 19 before forward Sagaba Konate buried a corner three to push the lead back to 22.

Brotherly love ended the half on a 5-0 spurt, but the Mountaineers took a 50-33 advantage into halftime.

Best Virginia expanded its lead to 26 in the second quarter, outscoring Brotherly Love 12-4 in the first four minutes of the second half and guard Taz Sherman buried three threes in the final two minutes of the third quarter to give BV a 75-47 lead.

With Best Virginia leading by 85-56 at the under four minute mark of the fourth quarter the Elam ending was set at 93.

Forward Wesley Harris buried a three from the wing and followed with a lay-in to give Best Virginia 90. After missing six consecutive threes, forward Jonathan Holton closed the game on back-to-back layups for a 94-69 victory.
