Bette Midler admits she and her husband have slept in ‘separate bedrooms’ for 40 years

Bette Midler revealed the secret to her long-lasting marriage is sleeping in “separate bedrooms.”

“My husband snores,” she explained in an interview with Entertainment Tonight published Thursday.

Midler, 78, has been married to Martin von Haselberg since Dec. 16, 1984.

They tied the knot in Las Vegas after knowing each other for six weeks.

She also told ET that their marriage has been a “fabulous ride” and admitted they have slept in separate bedrooms since the start of their romance.

Earlier this month, the “Hocus Pocus” star reflected on their 40-year marriage by recalling her “very impulsive” decision to propose to von Haselberg.

After he accepted, they headed to Sin City and were wed by an Elvis impersonator at the now-shuttered Starlight Chapel.

“Always a good idea,” she quipped on “Today With Hoda & Jenna.” She also said she felt “astonished” that she could be married for so long.

Around the time of their 30th anniversary, Midler said she believed her marriage worked so well because they gave each other space.

“I think the secret is giving each other a lot of lead and a lot of room and not being in each other’s faces all the time,” she told People in November 2014. She said “listening” and willingness to compromise are important factors as well.

She and von Haselberg share one daughter, Sophie von Haselberg, whom they welcomed in 1986.
