The Houston Cougars will attempt to complete the sweep in their first Big 12 season.
Kelvin Sampson’s team topped the regular-season standings and should be the favorite to win the 2024 Big 12 tournament.
Houston will try to become the fourth No. 1 seed to win the Big 12 tournament since 2016. The Kansas Jayhawks won all three titles by top seeds in that span.
Kansas uncharacteristically finished sixth in the regular-season standings and it may not reach the semifinals in Kansas City.
The Jayhawks’ injury issues and inconsistent play could lead to a first-time Big 12 tournament champion.
Houston is obviously going for its first Big 12 tournament title, but so are the third-seeded Baylor Bears, who have not won the event despite their success under head coach Scott Drew.

Big 12 history suggests one of the top four teams will cut down the nets in Kansas City.
The Iowa State Cyclones in 2019 were the only non-top-four seed to win the Big 12 tournament and they did so as the No. 5 seed.
The expanded tournament format in 2024 will make it even harder for teams beneath the top four to win. The top four teams received double byes and only have to win three times in Kansas City.
Houston suffered a single loss dating back to January 17, so it is hard to see it struggling inside the Sprint Center.
The Cougars beat the fourth-seeded Texas Tech Red Raiders by 23 points in their only regular-season meeting. Only Iowa State and Kansas beat Houston by more than a point in Big 12 play.
Iowa State should come into Kansas City with extra motivation to prove it can in March after a road loss to the Kansas State Wildcats on Saturday.
The Cyclones should be a slight favorite over Baylor in the semifinals, if chalk holds, since the Bears went 3-3 in their final six games.
Baylor should be motivated by its winning its first Big 12 tournament and to get revenge on Houston, who beat the Bears in overtime on February 24 in Waco.
Baylor could be worn down by the final, though, because Kansas could provide a tough test despite being short-handed in the quarterfinals. The Bears have the toughest path to the championship game.
Whichever team advances to the final from the bottom half needs to play a perfect 40 minutes to beat Houston.
Prediction: Houston over Baylor
