Biggest Losers After Day One of Free Agency

Biggest Losers After Day One of Free Agency

While some teams thrive in the frenzy of NFL Free Agency, others find themselves on the losing side, whether due to missed opportunities, lack of action, or failed pursuits of key players. The first day of Free Agency can often expose weaknesses in a teamā€™s strategy or leave them scrambling to play catch-up. After a whirlwind of signings and trades, itā€™s clear that a few franchises have emerged from day one with more questions than answers. In this article, weā€™ll examine the biggest losers from the opening day of free agency, where their plans fell short, and what these early missteps could mean for the rest of the offseason.

Letā€™s look at six teams that had a rough outing:

Cleveland Browns

Browns traded for Kenny Pickett! That was the highlight of their day in Cleveland, and I am not a big fan. The team traded Dorian Thompson-Robinson and a draft pick in exchange for Pickett. I feel they even overpaid for Pickett. They were able to sign a disgruntled Myles Garrett before free agency, but they paid for it giving him 40 million a year. Outside of Garrett, they cut Dalvin Tomlinson and that was their day. I just do not think they were big winners.

Dallas Cowboys

Cowboys re-signed their long snapper and that was all they did for most of the day. Thankfully they were able to sign Javontae Williams later in the day and added Robert Jones, but I read yesterday the Cowboys have not paid a free agent more than 6 million since Greg Hardy was signed in 2015. If that is true that is insane, and maybe Jerry Jones needs to go asap.

Houston Texans

The Texans made a lot of moves, but they traded away their best offensive lineman. I am not sure the Texans fans even seen this one coming. The Texans ended up signing two wide outs in Justin Watson and Braxton Berrios. They were able to re-sign a few of their guys, but ultimately it was pretty bad. You want to keep adding pieces around CJ Stroud if you want him to win. I am not sure Watson and Berrios are the pieces you need.

Miami Dolphins

The Dolphins paid Zach Wilson to make him their back-up quarterback. You cannot make this up, and it was a higher deal than Jimmy G landed in Los Angeles. I am not sure about this move, but I am not a fan. Add in the fact that Tua has been trending online looking out of shape, the Phins are in trouble. They signed two offensive lineman in Larry Borom and James Daniels, but they need a lot more than a couple reserve lineman.

New York Giants

The Giants are paying money to get people to come to New York. They have too, no one wants to play for them. They gave Paulson Adebo a huge deal worth 54 million, and Adebo is coming off a major injury. The Giants seem to believe he will be good to go, but the one that was shocking is they gave Darius Slayton a nice pay day. They paid him 3 years and 36 million, which was two million less than they could have given Saquon Barkley last year to keep him. Add in the fact they added James Hudson III, Roy Robertson-Harris and Chris Board, I just didnā€™t see any homeruns, and the Giants need homeruns.

Tennessee Titans

Titans paid Dan Moore sooo much money. Yes, they made Dan Moore one of the highest paid offensive lineman in the league. I am not knocking Dan Moore, but he was not a Pro Bowl caliber player. The team then signed Cody Barton, and re-signed a few of their former players. For a team picking first overall, they need more help. I am not sure they are doing enough to get over the hump.
