Black Starlets coach Laryea Kingston reacts after a big win in WAFU B opener.

Black Starlets coach Laryea Kingston is beaming with pride after his team’s dominant 5-1 victory over Ivory Coast in the WAFU B U17 Cup of Nations opener.

The Ghana U17 side dazzled with a goal fest, courtesy of Joseph Narbi’s brace, and strikes from Godfred Sarpong, Harve Gbafa, and Mark Kagawa Mensah.

In a post-match interview, Coach Kingston praised the Ivorian team’s quality, acknowledging the challenges they posed.

Despite the convincing win, he highlighted the difficulties his team faced during the match, showcasing his tactical acumen and dedication to continuous improvement.

“It’s a joy. We have to enjoy. It wasn’t an easy game. The Ivorians are not an easy side. They made it difficult for us. We found it difficult to keep the game because of the way they play. I’m excited. Now Ghanaians have to have fun because it’s a good win against a good side,” he said.

With this victory, the Black Starlets are now focused on their next Group A fixture which will be against Benin next Tuesday.

The win marks a significant step in Ghana’s journey to reclaiming a spot in the U17 Africa Cup of Nations, a feat they have not achieved since 2017.
