Adam Scott turned in one of the best rounds of the PGA Tour season to take possession of the 36-hole lead at the BMW Championship.
Scott carded a course record 63 at Castle Pines Golf Club to move up to 13-under for the tournament.
The Australian needed a strong week in Colorado to vault into the top 30 of the FedEx Cup standings. He has done just that through two rounds.
Scott holds a three-shot lead over 18-hole leader Keegan Bradley and a four-shot edge over Ludvig Aberg, who also shot a 63 on Friday.
Scottie Scheffler is nowhere in sight on the leaderboard. The top player in the FedEx Cup standings resides 12 shots back of Scott.
The good news for Scheffler is that he will easily make the Tour Championship, so he just needs to re-focus over the next two rounds to finish as high as possible.

Adam Scott tore up Castle Pines to shoot a nine-under 63.
The Aussie rolled in four birdies on the front nine and gained five shots on the back nine to create some separation on the leaderboard.
Scott moved from 41st to fourth in the projected FedEx Cup standings with his round. A win comes with 2,000 FedEx Cup points.
Scott is one of four golfers who started the week outside the top 30 in the FedEx Cup standings to move inside the projected top 30 through two rounds. Keegan Bradley, Alex Noren and Corey Conners are the others.
Scott still needs to put two more solid rounds together to remain inside the top 30 and make the Tour Championship, but for now, he is in terrific shape to extend his season for another week.
Ludvig Aberg Surges Up Leaderboard2 of 3

Ludvig Aberg matched Scott’s nine-under 63 from the afternoon wave of tee times.
The Swede rolled in eight birdies and produced an eagle on the 14th hole. His only dropped shot came from a bogey on the third hole.
The second-round score catapulted Aberg into third place and he has a chance to chase down Scott during Saturday’s third round.
Aberg’s Tour Championship spot is not in jeopardy, like Scott, Bradley and others, since he entered the weekend in seventh place.
However, Aberg has room to move up the FedEx Cup standings now that Hideki Matsuyama has withdrawn from the tournament.
Matsuyama moved up to third place with a win at last week’s FedEx St. Jude Championship, but he will not earn points because of the withdraw and someone else in the top 10, like Aberg, could take his third position behind Scottie Scheffler and Xander Schauffele.

Scottie Scheffler has not had the best week so far at Castle Pines.
The top golfer in the FedEx Cup standings followed up an opening-round 71 with a second-round 72 in which he did not putt well.
Scheffler is 12 shots off Scott’s leading score and most likely will not have a shot to win in Colorado.
However, Scheffler can still extend his points lead atop the FedEx Cup standings with a strong weekend.
Only Xander Schauffele, who is two strokes ahead of Scheffler at the BMW, can catch the No. 1 golfer in the FedEx Cup standings by the end of the tournament.
Scheffler needs to improve his putting, put up a decent number on Saturday and begin to create some personal momentum going into the Tour Championship.
