Then the supposed next in line for NFL GOAT status had to own his second Super Bowl failure.

“I feel like I didn’t play to my standard, especially the struggles that I had early in the season,” Mahomes exclusively told talkSPORT.
“There’s things that I have to get better at, and they kind of showed today on the biggest stage.”
Mahomes has now been beaten 71-31 in his big-game defeats.

“Both sucked. There’s no way around it,” Mahomes said.
“Anytime you lose a Super Bowl, they’ll stick with you the rest of your career. These will be the two losses that will motivate me to be even better for the rest of my career, because you only get so few of these.”
The Chiefs weren’t great enough to make NFL history with the first three-peat.
Even the history that Mahomes made was misleading on Sunday.
He finished 21-of-32 passing for 257 yards, three touchdowns, two interceptions and a respectable 95.4 rating.

His pick-six fired into the hands of Eagles rookie Cooper DeJean changed the game.
Showtime Mahomes wasn’t close to good enough in Super Bowl LIX, and he knew it.
“Credit to the Eagles, man, they played better than us from start to finish,” Mahomes said.
“We didn’t start how we wanted to. Obviously the turnovers hurt and I take all the blame for that.”
On a night when Tom Brady flashed an unmissable gold watch on international TV, TB12 reminded the world who the GOAT really was — and still is.

The Chiefs were booed, embarrassed and booed again in the Superdome.
Mahomes was reminded that being the greatest of all-time isn’t that easy.
“I mean, it hurts,” Mahomes said. “It’s going to hurt for a while, but how can you respond from it?
“We we have a great football team. We still have a young football team and a lot of these guys will be their first time having a defeat in a season.
“And how can you get better? How can you not be satisfied with just getting here, and taking your game to the next level?
“That starts with me and the other leaders on this team, but it’ll feed throughout the entire team and hopefully we can come back next season and put up a better effort.”
Watch Taylor Swift’s X-rated response after being instantly booed by Philadelphia Eagles fans at Super Bowl
Travis Kelce barely heard his name called on a night when E-A-G-L-E-S chants filled a buzzing Dome.
Throw in Taylor Swift also being coldly booed, and it hadn’t been this bad for the Chiefs since Brady’s old team, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, thrashed Kansas City 31-9 in Super Bowl LV.
As special and influential as the 29-year-old Mahomes has been since his first full pro year in 2018, he’s almost lost as many Super Bowl as he’s won.
Brady has seven rings and went 7-3 in the big game.
Mahomes has three trophies and is 3-2.
In the weeks leading up to Super Bowl LIX, GOAT talk in the media leaned toward Mahomes.
It was too soon and completely unfair to Brady, who leads NFL QBs in almost every significant category and dominated the league for two decades.
Mahomes vowed to return better and different next season, learning from the defensive schemes that limited him to 61 passing yards and a surreal 18.3 passer rating while Hurts was lighting up the Dome.
