Brandon Sanderson Partners With Maryville Esports for Upcoming NACL Summer Split

‘Stormlight Archives’ writer Brandon Sanderson partners up with Maryville Esports for the LCS NACL Summer Split.

Dragonsteel Entertainment has collaborated with Maryville Esports for the upcoming North America Challengers League in the LCS.

The NACL lets amateur esports rosters in the US compete with academy rosters in a full-season League of Legends derby.

The $100,000 Summer split is expected to take place around July. So here’s everything you need to know about Brandon Sanderson joining the LCS.

Brandon Sanderson Enters League of Legends Esports
Not only is Brandon Sanderson one of the greatest fantasy writers of our time, he’s also a massive gamer.

The “The Way of Kings” author shouted out his favorite titles numerous times, from convention panels to his official YouTube channel. As a result, Sanderson was approached for a big collab.

Esports Veteran Travis Gafford posted a video on YouTube detailing how the unique partnership came to be. In it, Gafford talked about how he became the bridge for Dragonsteel Entertainment (Sanderson’s company) and the tier-two tournament organizers for NA League of Legends, leading to the one-of-a-kind collab.

Maryville University’s esports team is known as a powerhouse in the NACL. After taking consecutive wins in the upper bracket, the collegiate roster secured the runner-up spot and $20,000 in Spring.

Cosmere geeks and fans of the NA LoL esports scene quickly shouted their support for the partnership.

“If they don’t rename the team Bridge Four Maryville I’ll be pissed”, read a comment under Gafford’s YouTube video. While some references will only be caught by Sanderson’s readers, The sci-fi writer’s entry into the LCS has got to be one of the biggest surprises of 2024.

We’re excited to see how far Dragonsteel and Maryville Esports go this season. Maryville’s roster was dominant in the Spring Split, but this breath of fresh Stormlight is bound to get them farther than ever.
