Brewers’ Christian Yelich had 1st inside-the-park 8-RBI game in MLB history

Christian Yelich found a way to do something Friday night that no one had ever done in MLB history.

The origins of the accomplishment were the eight RBI put up by the Milwaukee Brewers’ star, but that’s been done before.

Not like this: Yelich did it without a home run.

And since RBI became official in 1920, there had never been an eight-RBI game with no homer by that hitter, until now, according to OptaStats.

Yelich finished 4-for-6 with the 8 RBI and two doubles.

His run-scoring plate appearances consisted of:

1-RBI single3-RBI double3-RBI double1-RBI singleYeah, a couple of bases-clearing doubles will pile up the RBI in a hurry.

Amazingly, this game that the Brewers won 17-6 was scoreless through three innings.

Yelich didn’t notch the first of his eight RBI until the sixth inning, when the Brewers opened a tame 3-0 lead.

Then they scored five in the seventh, four in the eighth and five in the ninth.

Yelich was at the heart of it.

He’s not the hitter he once was, but Yelich proved on this night that he can be as good once as he ever was.
