Brilliant Nigerian star draws praises from Montpellier’s Nordin with his work ethic after heroics vs Auxerre
Montpellier forward Arnaud Nordin has thrown his support behind Nigerian striker Akor Adams, predicting a prolific season after Adams’ match-winning performance against Auxerre, Soccernet.ng reports.
Adams, who had netted just once in Montpellier’s opening four Ligue 1 matches, delivered a game-changing display on Sunday, helping his side to a thrilling 3-2 home victory over Auxerre.
Montpellier had struggled to find form early in the season, failing to win any of their first four games.
But Adams’ resurgence was key in turning things around.
The match initially seemed to be slipping away from Montpellier after Hamed Traoré gave Auxerre a lead in the 18th minute, and the visitors maintained that advantage for over an hour.
However, Adams stepped up in the 65th minute, connecting with a perfect cross from Téji Savanier to head in the equalizer.
The game saw more drama as Modibo Sagnan put Montpellier ahead briefly, only for Ado Onaiwu to level for Auxerre minutes later. Adams, though, had the final say, capping off a quick counter-attack in the 87th minute to seal the victory.
Nordin praised Adams’ work ethic, stating, “Akor is someone who works a lot, a lot. We are also there to help him. Today, he scored two goals, and he will score two next week, and next week, and next week again.”
His brace against Auxerre is Adams’ first multi-goal game for Montpellier since October 2023, when he scored twice in a 3-0 win over Toulouse.
