British fighter’s UFC dream in tatters after faceplant KO loss on the Contender Series

Adam Bramhald has suffered a huge setback in his pursuit of UFC glory.

The 30-year-old Englishman hoped to earn a contract from Dana White when he squared off against Malcolm Wellmaker on the latest Contender Series [DWCS] show in Las Vegas.

Wellmaker improved his perfect record to 8-0 and got a UFC contract.

Bramhald still has some work to do after being caught with an overhand right as he charged forward at his opponent, who sent him crashing face-first to the Octagon floor.

READ MORE CONTENDER SERIESThankfully, the 9-3 fighter from Leeds quickly got back up to his feet after the vicious KO, which was his first defeat since facing former Cage Warriors champion Luke Shanks in 2017.

“All good guys got caught it happens,” Bramhald wrote on his Instagram story.

“More annoyed. I felt I was growing into the fight and still feel like I was the better fighter. Appreciate the support.”

He added: “Will be back to everyone tomorrow, my elbow is absolutely f***ed can’t lift up my phone.

“I felt good in the fight. I may get another shot, I may not. Well done to Malcolm Wellmaker, I wish him all the best in the future, he’s a good lad and packs some serious power at the weight.

“Thank you for the support and positivity.”

“The past three or four fights, we’ve had a plan and a vision for the exact way we are going to finish fights, and the same thing happened tonight.
