Two weeks after winning the AEW World Championship for the first time at All In, Bryan Danielson successfully defended it in a win over TNT champion Jack Perry at All Out on Saturday, hitting his foe with a Busaiku Knee that sent the challenger flying.
However, Danielson paid a terrible price post-match.
All Elite Wrestling @AEW”The Patriarchy” has sent a message to #AEW World Champion Bryan Danielson and the BCC!

As Danielson celebrated his victory, Killswitch came from behind and attacked him. A few moments later, Christian Cage strolled down the ramp with the rest of The Patriarchy.
Announcers speculated that Cage could be cashing in on his Casino Gauntlet Match victory at All In for AEW World Championship title shot. However, Jon Moxley then stepped in between The Patriarchy and the ring. The rest of the Blackpool Combat Club joined him.
The crew then joined Danielson in the ring, raising his hands in victory. Then in a stunning turn of events, Claudio Castagnoli uppercut punched Danielson, and Moxley choked him with a plastic bag. Pac then held Wheeler Yuta back from defending Danielson. Marina Shafir also got in on the action.
AEW posted this on X post-incident:
All Elite Wrestling @AEWDue to the graphic nature of the attack on Bryan Danielson, we will not be sharing the footage. AEW does not condone such actions.
Eventually, that quartet took its leave, and medics and Yuta attended to the champion.
Danielson made his AEW debut in 2021, and although he made it clear throughout much of his tenure in the company that he had no interest in becoming world champion, he was thrust into the title scene ahead of All In.
Competing in the Owen Hart Foundation Tournament, Danielson beat Shingo Takagi, Pac and “Hangman” Adam Page to win it and become No. 1 contender for the AEW World Championship.
That set the stage for an All In match between Danielson and then-champion Swerve Strickland at Wembley Stadium in London, and to add even more intrigue, Danielson’s career was on the line.
Danielson and Strickland engaged in a hard-hitting battle that saw The American Dragon get busted open, and the presence of Danielson’s wife and children at ringside contributed to the drama.
In the end, Danielson made Swerve submit, setting off a massive celebration among Danielson, his family and the Wembley faithful.
On the ensuing episode of Dynamite, Danielson said he would continue as a full-time wrestler for as long as he was champion, and he declared that he would take on all challengers.
After making that announcement, Danielson was attacked by Perry, who was fresh off retaining the TNT title in a win over Darby Allin in a coffin match at All In.
That was all it took for Perry to be granted a title match against Danielson in Chicago, which was a fitting location since Perry’s altercation with CM Punk at All In last year is what led to one of Chicago’s favorite sons in Punk to be released from AEW.
The crowd was firmly on Danielson’s side at All Out, and he parlayed that support into a title defense that will extend his full-time in-ring career by at least one more match.
